Dr. Scot Seitz

Background

I am originally from Tampa, FL, and I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2005. Before starting my career in psychology, I pursued various interests in public health and public education. I found my “home” in clinical psychology (where I can help other people grow and thrive) and community psychology (where I can help promote positive change at organizational and community levels). One of my main values is social justice, and I am inspired by efforts to increase equity for marginalized groups. Outside of work, I enjoy playing tennis, watching musical theater, and spending time with my family and friends.

What is it like working with me in psychotherapy?

The foundation of my therapy is a collaborative relationship based on warmth and acceptance. At the beginning of therapy, my main goal is to get to know you and the context in which you live. I draw from a multicultural perspective that highlights the importance of identity (e.g., gender, race, sexuality, mother, son, partner), and I also respect the impact that our environments have on us (e.g., family, workplace environments). I will work collaboratively with you to develop goals for therapy and a plan to attain those goals. I utilize a variety of evidence-based approaches to provide a tailored therapy experience. The most common approaches that I use are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and interpersonal therapy (IPT). I also use exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP) for obsessive-compulsive and other anxiety-related disorders. Throughout therapy, I incorporate empowerment-based strategies that can help you create the change that you are seeking.

What is it like working with me in program evaluation and development?

My first priority is to understand your goals for our work together, whether those involve a relatively straightforward evaluation of an existing program, learning strategies to conduct ongoing evaluation, or the development of a completely new program. One of my main roles is to help clarify the vision of the program, the theory of change underlying the program, and the day-to-day logistics of implementation. This serves as a foundation for us to determine the most effective strategies for program development and evaluation. I value ongoing communication and feedback throughout the course of our work together to ensure that we are attaining your goals.
